What carried you to the first thousand users will not carry you to the next ten thousand. The shortcuts you took then were right – today they are why a small change takes a week and every traffic spike is followed by an anxious weekend. The launch has slipped for the third time, sales is promising dates engineering cannot hold, and nobody knows at which number it tips over. Growth you have to dread is not growth.
What to do about it
A rebuild is almost always the most expensive and riskiest answer – and the one you reach for when the real limit is unknown. The question is not whether to rewrite, it is which two or three places actually cap your load. Everything else can stay as it is.
We find that limit in a load test before your traffic finds it, and plan the rework in stages you can ship one at a time: no feature freeze, no single date on which everything has to go right at once. Building platforms and then running them is our day job – we do not hand over at the finish line, we stay for the operation.
